Sending on Wednesday since people probably avoid emails on Thanksgiving.
Hope you enjoy and that you have a good holiday!
My Thought for the Week 💭
The first few weeks of lockdown for me in California were okay.
Granted virtual classes were kicking my ass but I got through it the best I could given the circumstances. And I had all this “free time” to take time to myself and try new things.
Though with weeks came months, and now we’re about 2 years in of when this all started.
Things have drastically changed for me in which my energy levels aren’t as high as they once were because…every day is literally always the same.
Days of the week don’t seem to have much meaning. Weekends don’t feel like weekends anymore, chasing it is pointless.
Time is just…flying by and I haven’t been able to process it too well.
When I find myself in depressive creative slumps, I look to one of my most favorite books I keep on my desk: Keeping Going by Austin Kleon.
Reading the first chapter titled Every day is Groundhog Day gave me an insight on how to think about life recently.
He writes:
“We have so little control over our lives. The only thing we can really control is what we spend our days on.”
When you’re going through mental illness, pain, or any life circumstance that you feel is bringing you down it can be has to have distorted view on things.
So every day might feel like it’s the same and that nothing will ever change, but it doesn’t always have to be that way.
Just take one day at a time to make the small changes.
I hope you had a great week,
Miko

How to Build In Public
What it means to build in public is exactly that…building in public.
You share the process of what you’ve been building with an audience or community.
This can be in the form of Tweets, in which you share how you created your blog and what the ups and downs have been like for you so that other people can learn from your mistakes.
Or it can be in the form of short form video content in which you create videos showing how your art goes from an empty canvas to a complete project in 60 seconds or less.
Of course people want to see the wins and accomplishments you’ve achieved, but they also want to see how you got there too.
If you want to learn more about building in public with extra free resources, then be sure to check out the Build In Public website.

This talk by James Clear - Author of Atomic Habits
It’s no secret that Atomic Habits is one of the most popular books to date on productivity and consistent habit building. In fact it’s one of my favorite non-fiction books that I like to revisit often when I’m struggling with my own consistency.
Recently he did a talk on The Power of Focus as a Creator and after that talk I left feeling better about myself and the journey I was on.
Lately I’ve been getting over a content slump and was losing some hope, but in this talk James clearly defines how long it took him to get where he is today.
Years of writing on his blog before even getting noticed, then once he was finally getting some traction it took him a few years to write Atomic Habits, and even then that took some years of traction as well and now the book is a worldwide bestseller.
Good things take time, and James Clear is one of many examples of this. Keep going.
Thanks for your transparency and honesty, Miko! Every day is the same, I'm feeling that 💯
I'm excited to dive into James' talk on the power of focus, too. Thanks for sharing that!
